Becoming Cultured - Monthly Homework Project HONORS STUDENTS ONLY!
From now until the end of the school year, you are required to attend ONE live cultural event per month; therefore, you will attend three performances during first semester and four performances during second semester. You may choose your event from the following areas:
Visual Art: art exhibit or show at a gallery or museum, viewed in person Architecture: unique structures only, interior and exterior must be viewed Music: any live musical performance one hour or longer Dance: any live performance, except school dances. Theatre: any live performance one hour or longer
You may NOT use any of the following events: ·An event in which you play or played any role in the production and/or creation ·More than one event in any given category per semester ·Movies- Except for those listed. ·CDs ·TV shows ·Internet videos, pictures, songs, etc. ·Art or architecture pictured in a book (you MUST see the works in person) ·Sports events ·Literature ·“Ordinary” architecture, like a house ·Anything NOT created and/or modified by humans
If you have questions about your event, or think you have an acceptable exception, you must get PRIOR approval, in writing, from your teacher. You must attend two events outside the normal school day. As a result, you may choose one in school event for the first semester and two events second semester.
Requirements 1) Viewing or Listening Guide - 40 Points a. You must complete the ENTIRE page, Identify, Describe, and Explain for each element/principle listed. b. Complete this sheet within 24 hrs. of attending the performance 2) Self-reflection of your experience - 40 Points a. One page, typed, 12 point Times New Roman font, Double Spaced b. Discuss your expereince, thoughts, opinions on the artwork. 3) Proof of Attendance - 20 Points a.Ticket, brochure, or photo from the event WITH YOU IN IT! b.A NOTE FROM YOUR PARENTS DOES NOT COUNT!!!!!

-Each monthly Becoming Cultured Assignment is worth 100 pts. -5 points will be deducted per day, for late work. -This is part of formative assessment in the grade book and is one of the additional requirements to make this an advanced level class and to receive an extra GPA point. Let's not just talk about art, go out and experience it in your own community!

The first two files, Project Ideas, and Lexington Art Museums, give details and events that can be attended; some free, some for a cost. The remaning documents are Viewing or Listening Guides for whichever event you choose to experience.
